ULSIT is a state university. The social mission of ULSIT is to prepare highly qualified, socially responsible personally motivated and adaptive to the labour market specialists. ULSIT has the strategic aim for sustainable development as a leading higher school with a significant scientific, technological and innovative potential. ULSIT is a university focused on six areas of knowledge Information Technologies, Ciber Security, National Security, Cultural Heritage, Library Studies and History. ULSIT strives to create establish a sustainable triangle: academy, research and business. One of the main mission of the ULSIT is to work on projects with national, regional and European significance for transfer of innovations and knowledge in its main areas. The University has gained educational, scientific, technology and innovation capacity, able to get actively involved in the European Research and Innovation Area by implementing projects under EU structural funds, Horizon 2020 and Erasmus+ Programmes, as well as in other international programmes. ULSIT has partnerships with many European research and educational centres and high technological companies especially in the field of Internet technologies, cultural and creative industries, education technologies, etc. ULSIT is member of the National STEM platform, Balkan Universities Network, UNESCO Chairs/UNITWIN Network., Erasmus Networks and other.
ULSIT has two faculties: Faculty of Information Sciences and Faculty of Library Studies and Cultural Heritage. The University is accredited by the National Agency for Evaluation and Accreditation in Computer Science and ICT, Cyber Security, Library Studies, Cultural Heritage and History. It offers 16 Bachelor programmes and 28 Master’s programmes, as well as a number of Doctoral programmes.
There are few research and innovation institutes: for Cyber Security, for Research and Doctoral Education, for Research in the Field of Organisation, Management and Preservation of Cultural Heritage and Institute of Leadership in an Information Environment.
The ULSIT develop the Center for Innovations and Education as the heir of Center for Transfer of Technologies. Its main goal is to create and implement innovative and entrepreneurial spirit at the university as methods for educating in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).
ULSIT has gained educational, scientific, technology and innovation capacity and has been involved in the implementation of more than 50 RTD projects in last 5 years, under different national, EU programmes and initiatives able to get actively involved in the European Research and Innovation Area. ULSIT is a member of the National STEM platform, Balkan Universities Network and other.
Significant projects in which the Faculty of Information Science plays a leading role in ERASMUS+ frameworks are APInno: Innovation Action Project (best practices), NAVIGATE: Information Literacy a Game-based Learning Approach for Avoiding Fake Content , iBigWorld: Innovations for Big Data in a Real World , FAAI: The Future is in Applied Artificial Intelligence, etc.
ULSIT successfully develops ICT training and research. According to the rating of the National Agency for Assessment and Accreditation UniBIT is in third place in Bulgaria in the field of ICT. The competencies and research activities of the Faculty of Information Sciences staff in ICT is oriented to Computer Sciences, Big Data, Data Science, AI and ML, Cyber Security, AR&VR, UX design, Brain Wave.
ULSIT is part of the Center for Excellence in Informatics and ICT. Its goals are to develop modern ICT infrastructure and open ccess services for researchers in Bulgaria; create conditions for conducting research in accordance with the best world standards and work in interdisciplinary teams.
